Taking the 52-week Challenge

Taking the 52-week Challenge

For the past few weeks I have been writing about savings & the importance of saving and last week I have started to write about the different ways of saving.

Almost a year ago, the 52-week challenge was circulating in Facebook.

I was thinking maybe I should try it for fun. Because I am a hard core Excel addict I did up my own table.

Here we are standing at end of Nov and I am proud to say that so far I have diligently followed it.

Through this journey, I was thinking there can be other iterations or variations of this 52-week challenge:

1) Do it in ascending order. Start from 52 and this means higher amount in the first few months encouraging you to stick to the plan.

2) Multiply it by 2 or 10 depending on the amout you are comfortable with. Since I am doing it using SGD the amount makes sense.  But if you do it using Php, the amount at the end of the horizon is not that big.

3) Save an equal amount every week. Example, save 10SGD per week and at the end of the year you will have a whopping 520SGD 🙂 This is not a huge amount but it is better than nothing.

4) Instead of saving in a weekly basis, do it monthly.  An example is my travel fund.  I estimated the amount I needed for the trip & worked backwards on how much time I have before the trip & this dictated the amount I need to set aside.

These are just some of my thoughts & I am sure you have other ideas. Please free to suggest as we are all in a process of learning & improving ourselves.
